Miz Allie wants to thank all her furry friends for the warm "B" day greetings....I am feeling a little better these days and eating lots of yummy "stinky" foods....mom has been giving me more since my teeth's are not as many as when I was a young little kitten. Meow.....but I am getting around and enjoying my elder years...mommy is leaving on a trips soon and I have been a little scared to bes alone for 5 days...she says that John and Darin will come by to feed me and ole Foxy girl...but ole Foxy she is just interesed in running around the house....she tires me out just watching her....meow....I thinks that I might just take a few siestas and enjoy the sunny days....meow....

I thought's maybe I would see what the "experts" say about leaving us kitties home alone......

Leave us plenty of water...meow...we get thristy
also be sure to leave something of mommy's or daddy;s so we can cuddle up to it

Bendrix tagged Miz Allie Cat for the 7 Useful Things Meme! That was after I tooks my daily nap so I was real rested up for the challenge.

My mommy has been on vacation so she didn't see this right away. Meow.....now she is on the ball and helping me write this meme.....

1. I make sure I sit by my mommy all the time so she can rub my ears. She likes to feel them and I like it when she whispers into them and calls my name..meow...

2. I never let me mommy sleep much pass dawn. I need my vittos and mommy needs to get them for me...Daddy isn't too happy with my meowing, but that is ok mommy will get up..meow

.3. I make sure that there is always room for my green treats. Mommy gives them to me every morning, at night I get just my stinky food, but in th emorning mom treats me. meow

4. I keep the beans from drinking all the milk. I like to like mom's ice cream bowl after she has finished her part.mmmmm good I loves vanilla...meow

.5. I keep the daddy company only when mom is away for a trip otherwise I completely ignore him, afterall he is just there to buy my food. Meow

6. I also make sure the beans gets their daily exercise by sweeping my kitty litter off the floor. I could be a little more careful, but I likes to shake my paws all over and throw those tiny gritty things everywhere. Mom seems to be a biy upset at it but she always laughs at me so I figure she wants me to do it more.

7. I keep watch to make sure those big funny looking creatures [opossums]with the pointed noses never comes in the kitty door and gets mommy and daddy all scared and upset. They have spiky backs and ugly looking faces, always up on the fince and boy they can sure hiss a lot. But I scares them over the fence and back into their waterway.

.8. I help foxy to get a new bed, I got lots of hairs all over the back of the couch and mommy thought it was that ole Foxy and went out and got her a new bed for her own sopt on the couch. Now I gets momy all to myself and that ole Foxy gets sent to her bed on the couch at the other end...meow...

9. I keep my mommy "toasy" at night when she is watching TV by curling up on her lap and then pushing against her chest till she rubs my ears. That way I feeels good and she stays warm, and I get to give her little "love" bites on her hand to massage her too. Meow...

Now you may ask, why did I do 9 instead of 7? Well, I was following Bendrix and thought that I should show just how useful I really am and how much my mommy needs me.

Should We Be Walked or Not?

There are several types of harnesses that are comfortable and pretty or best suited for us to wear??? I do not personally like them, but mommy insists I wear one occasionally. So the question remains should you or should you not walk us? Meow...

Well .....there are mixed views on that question. Some say of course you should and they take the time and patience to train us. Others say no never, because we are wild in nature and there is no point to try and capture us. But if you do you are just kidding yourselves as we are really walking you? meow.... And then there are those that think we may need the exersize and insist on making us learn. And I must agree that some of us could lose a pound or two...puurrrr...but most mommy's or daddy's want us to learn how to walk so if your one of those who must try then these tips might help you...meow....

There are many reasons why taking the time to leash train us can be of immense value: if we tend to scratch our nails on your furniture, and like to climb your drapes or otherwise cause harm to your belongings; maybe we hang out at every window, fascinated with the great outdoors; or maybe yer mommy needs the exercise??? meow, I sure don't...puurrrr for the fun and exercise for yourself; for the enjoyment and exercise for your kitty.

To be successful in leash training us, it is of the utmost importance that you use the correct type of harness. We are notorious for being able to squirm out of many types of harness restraints, and this will obviously not work for successful leash training. You will need a comfortable, safe type of harness, designed for the special needs of us. Look for a harness that is more of a jacket and soft and limber, but really strong. This is especially important as we tend to be more skittish than our furry friends, dogs, and we may need lots of emotional and physical reassurance. If the we don't feel safe in our harness/walking jacket, we may continue to squirm and ultimately wriggle free and run off. Meow

The first thing to do is to get your us used to the Walking Jacket. Be very patient and persistent, and reward us lovingly. meow meow......Yelling, hitting or rough treatment will only make us mad and we will fear you. Remember, too, that we are all unique meow...., and will react differently. The optimum age to start leash/harness training is six to seven months of age. If you .

Place the harness and leash where we can sniff, paw and play and maybe we might lay down beside it, and jump, squirm, roll and paw for awhile.meow..... Don't encourage the bad behavior by laughing or trying to soothe us. Do not reprimand us either. It's best to just ignore us and let us get used to the items in our own time and way.

After several days, gently, but firmly, put the jacket on us, slowly-- allow two fingers width at the neck and stomach (do not attach the leash yet). Often, the best results come when this is attempted just before feeding. At this point, we may exhibit abnormal behavior, such as running around the room or lying on our side and acting as though we can no longer stand. As long as we are in safe surroundings, leave the jacket on for five minutes. Repeat this several times a day for a week to ten days. It is very important that we learn immediately to associate the jacket with going outdoors, Miz Allie also recommends that you hold your baby and speak very calmly but with excitement to us, and carry us out the back door, or even just hold us up to a window, etc. You can also provide some distraction such as playing with us or offering food to get our minds off the harness. Meow...maybe???? Consistency and patience are the keys here to success. We are creatures of habit, and you are establishing the important foundation that we will come to expect whenever you bring out our Walking Jacket in the future.

Once we feel comfortable with the jacket and accept it, we won't even know it's there, and you can attach the leash. Let us drag the leash around the house for several minutes at a time, I likes that part...meow.....maybe several times a day, for another few days, and continue to hold us reassuringly and take us outside each time we wears the jacket, even if it's just on your front patio. Be sure to supervise us to avoid us from becoming tangled and frightened. Once we have accepted our part, pick up the leash and just hold onto it. Miz Alllie says that we will now realize that we cannot run and have some restraints placed upon us. meow....While gently pulling on the leash, offer food (Gerber's baby food on your finger is a wonderful and special treat for training times like this) and say the word 'come'. Once again, be patient, persistent and loving. Remember, we usually will not walk on a leash like a dog. Of course not....not like those big furry guys...meow....we tend to like to run a bit, stop, roll, sniff an area, eat grass and then carry on. meow,,,,gracefully of course....

For our first walks, try starting in the late evening or early in the morning in a quiet area. Most of us take a few days to adjust to the idea of leash walking. Most leash pulling behavior begins as soon as we sees the leash and knows we are about to go for a walk. If the walk begins out of control, the precedent is set for the entire walk. Before expecting us to calmly walk beside you on leash, we must be calm when you are putting our jackets and leashes on, so it is well worth it to you to spend as much time as you and us need with the initial training and having us just getting used to the jacket and firmly associating the jacket with the pleasure of the outdoors, your attention, and the fact that this is a treat worth looking forward to!!

Simply hold onto the leash, stand still and let your us dance, ricochet and bounce around at the end of the leash. It may take 5 minutes or more, but we will soon realize that you are not going anywhere and we will begin to calm down. When this happens, praise us, meow..... for being good. After another minute or so, take your first step, but NOT toward the door. Instead, walk us around our house, garage or yard to give us a chance to practice our 'not-pulling' skills. Every time we lunge or strain on the leash, simply stand still again. Always talk to us and praise us calmly and quietly, and give us a dab of baby food on your finger.

It is a tremendous effort in patience at first but it will pay off if you persevere. You may only get to the end of the block or even your driveway on your first outing, but if you give in to our demands, then we will continue to pull on the leash. But, please remember that we are very different from a dog, meow meow.....and you will be learning together what behavior of your baby is acceptable behavior for you, yet allows for you and your baby....to have an enjoyable outdoor adventure together.

When we are comfortable indoors, try going outdoors again. Again, begin in an area with few distractions such as your front or back yard, and at a quiet time of day. When the two of you have mastered this, you are ready for places where there are more distractions. This exercise won't be difficult, since you've both had lots of practice beforehand at getting it right.

If we start biting and chewing the leash, try applying a product like Bitter Apple or Tabasco sauce or some other unpleasant tasting (but non-harmful) substance to the leash. yukky...meow....Reapply before every outing until we have lost interest in chewing on the leash.

Teaching us to go on walks with you is also a wonderful means of providing stimulus, a safe outdoor environment for limited time, and positive reinforcement with plenty of time and attention from you. meow..me likes that.....

Always remember that any change in our environment or habit can be extremely stressful to us, so be sure to be patient with us. And remember too that we could now be exposed to some dangerous parasites or fleas? Oh no...meow....So be sure and check us over and keep us protected against these nasty critters. Also do not let us eat lawn grass as there could be pesticides in there and always be sure we are properly geared with our ID tags just in case...Meow.......meow.....

Why do we sometimes knock things over?
When we knocks things over it can be two things, we may be trying to get your attention and /or we is also having fun. This is not just an accident! We just wants you to play with us. Meow....

Do we always land on our feet?
Not always, but we have better balance than most animals. When we spreads out our back and front legs we will fall more slowly, because our bodies act as a parachute. Our tail can also help balance a us. Meow
Why do we rub up against your legs?
We rub up against your leg to make you smell like us. The more you smell like us the more we like being around you. Also, we is letting other cats know that you are our own special friend. Meow
Why do we make mad dashes around the house?
We have a lot of energy to use up. Nature gave us energy to use in the wild to chase other animals. We may not need to run like that now, but we may be having fun pretending that we is wild. Meow Meow
Why do we climb trees?
We will mainly do this for protection from other animals, such as those ole dogs chasing us. We like to look around and see what other neighborhood animals are doing. And those of us who live indoors usually like to climb up on high areas such as a bookshelf or refrigerator. We have very strong hind muscles that allow us to get to these high places. I loves to get on the back of the couch and watch the birdies outside..Meow
Why do some of us kill mice and birds?
In the wild, we have to hunt our own food. We are not given cat food in a bowl everyday. When we kill mice and birds we are just hunting and using our instincts like we would in the wild. Meow.....
Why does we seem to want to come in right after you let me out?
We feels as though our yard is our own special place. We likes to check out what other animals are in our territory. Once we have done that, we like to come back inside the house where it is warm and safe. puuurrrsss, Meow......
Why don't most of us eat a lot of food at once?
We like to eat food that is equal to one mouse. This is not much! We really get full quickly, but we like to eat several times a day. This is why it is important to leave food out for us at all times. Meow...I likes to eat after Mom goes to bed....
Why do we like to go out at night?
Nighttime can be a great time for hunting! We can see well in the dark. Our pupils become very large and our eyes glow. Our whiskers can help us in the dark also. In order to get through small spaces, we will use our whiskers to see if the rest of our body will fit. We have 24 whiskers, 12 on each side, when the whiskers are forward we is curious and when our whiskers are back we are often scared. Meow....I am always scared outside and I run fast back inside to safe...Meow...
Why do some of us claw the furniture?
This can be a bad habit that mommy really gets mad ast us for and most mommys like to stop it when we's is young. You can try giving us a scratching post to stop clawing your furniture. Here are some more reasons we do it:
It sharpens our claws.
It exercises our claw muscles.
It helps to scrape off the old outside covering.
Gets our own smells around the house.
Why do we scratch and bite people sometimes?
More then likely we are annoyed, scared or angry when we scratches. You need to remember that we are only defending ourselves. Don't get too mad at us.. Meow

Squeezing us tightly.
Grabbing me too quick or without us realizing your there.
Dressing us in doll clothes. Yuck!!!
What toys do we like to play with?
We loves to play. We like anything soft and small that moves easily. We love to swat around our toys and pounce on them. This is how we practice their hunting skills. I also loves moms yarn balls....Meow....
Why do most we love catnip?
Catnip is a plant that we all loves to smell. It is often stuffed in many cat toys and can be sprayed on our toys too. I gots some from my Swap n' Tails pal and now I have it all over and pulled it down from the shelf and mommy keeps putting it away but when she falls asleep I go get it again.. Meow...
When does a baby kitten become a grown-up?
Kitty Calendar:
One Day Old: When we are a newborn we are very tiny and you can hold us in the palm of your hand. We can't see yet, but we can smell. All we can do is sleep and drink our mommy's milk.
One Week Old: Our weight doubles and our eyes begin to open.
One Month Old:We start to sit up and play with our brothers and sisters.
Two Months Old: We stop nursing and begin eating food.
Three Months Old: We begin to lose our baby teeth and new teeth grow in.
Six Months Old: We get along on our own without our mommys.
One Year Old: This is when we become full grown cats. We can live many years. The average life expectancy of a us is 14 years, but many of us, me for example...I am 17 yr old now, live to be 20 years and older. Meow...I sure hopes so....
Do we watch T.V.?
I sure dos a lot..... but mommy thinks maybe I am just seeing the moving things....so I guess the answer really is No, we do not watch T.V., but we do like watching the flickering and movement that is on the T.V. Most of us love anything that moves and many of us are hunters. We have animal instincts that tells us that this is what we should do.Meow...
Why are some of us friendlier than others?
Us friendly ones are the ones that were held and petted when we were a baby. The more attention we get the friendlier we will become. If we is shy, do not pet or chase us until we is ready. Be patient and talk softly to us and we will come around. Meow
Can we tell time?
We can't tell time the way you humans can, but we learn the habits and routines of our family. We learn things such as our mommys get up in the morning and I always start meowing for mommy at dawn so that she will get up and feeds me. We even know when a family member is coming home before you do. purrrssss...Meows....

Mommys have all seen us eat grass...but why do we do it? Some suggestions in my thoughts are:

I sometimes use grass as a laxative to enable me to pass hairballs lodged in my tummy.
I also eat grass to make me vomit up those awful sticky hairballs
I eat grass because sometimes I feel sick and it makes me spits up, getting rid of poisons.
I eat grass to help my itchy and hurting throat.
I eat grass to helps my tummy aches.
I eat grass to add roughage to my diet.

Sometimes I just eat grass because I like the ways it tastes..... there are lots of yummy juices in it...yummy....meow....and mommy says that there are tons of folic acid, a vitamin that is vital to me as it helps in the production of haemoglobin?? Not sure what that is???? Meow..will look that one up...

"A hemoprotein composed of globin and heme that gives red blood cells their characteristic color; function primarily to transport oxygen from the lungs to the body tissues" oh thats what it is...meow...

We need folic acid or if we are deficient in folic acid it would stunt our growth and may cause anaemia. meow!!!

If you are an indoor cat it could be a problem, if you has no access to a garden you will probably find your us nibbling at mommy's houseplants. But mommy's can buy small trays containing grass seeds, just add some water and within a few days we has a lush supply to chew on. meow...puurrrsss.....

And lets face it we know there is nothing cuter than us cats eating grass? Whether we are nudging it gently with our noses or whacking it brutally with our little paws, we always show our appreciation for natural tender grass. As well we should -- grass, in addition to endless entertainment, provides us with valuable health benefits too!! Meow....

Even if we are eating the best cat food in the world, we still may need a little help with our tummys. Tender green grasses help provide this assistance. We are actually biologically programmed to eat grass for this very reason. Meow....

However, this craving for munching on greens can get us in trouble. In the absence of safe grasses, we will often eat anything green we can find, which may include decorative or even poisonous plants. Having a safe alternative planted on the windowsill can save mommy and you a lot of grief. Meow.....

WOWOWeeee....I got my gifts today from Mr. Hendrix, my Swap n' Tails partner in the Feb swap... Meow....I was soo happy...it was loaded with yummy cats nippers...I loves those little meeces...and Mr. Hendrix' mommy [human] mades me a fun curly play toy too... I really gots into it and was panting with joy...Purrs and meows to her and Mr. Hendrix....

Even Mommy got two pretty heart candles with candle lights so that they are safes for mees...that curly thing ended up on my head...meow...Purrrssss I need to get back to playing....Mom already lit her candles...

Miz Allie Says Keep Our Ears Clean

To all human mommys and daddys....listen up about cleaning our ears.....if you must..meow...I sure donts like it...yuck....cleaning ears is a preliminary to administering medication for mites, or just as a part of regular grooming.
Its not that hard if yous is careful....just get some olive oil or commercial ear cleaner, cotton balls, a container for water. Then warm the olive oil or ear cleaner to body temperature by placing the container in a warm pan of water. Get us kitties on a table or the counter. Yummmy is there good food up there? Mommy doe not let me up on the counter EVER!!! Meow... Any purrs...

Put a drop or two of the liquid into the round opening of the ear canal. Because oil Kills Cat Ear Mites it should work great..meow...Gently massage the base of the ear for at least a minute, to work the liquid around. purrss I loves that part....meow..

Repeat steps with the other ear. Leave us alone for 5 minutes. We'll do a great deal of head shaking, which will dislodge dirt and move it into the outer ear canal.
After about 5 minutes, use clean cotton balls to wipe away oil and dirt from the ear.
Give us a treat for being so good. Purr Purrrr
Tips:
You can administer medication to our ears by doing the same.
What You Need:

Olive oil or ear cleaner

Cotton Balls

Container for warm water

Plastic eye-dropper

Miz Allie Cat Talks About Cats and Drinking Milk

I know I know mommy likes to dress me up...meow....so I try and tolerate her...now on to the facts...

Should we cats drink milk? Meow...Not sure I guess I must read more....This is one of those cat questions that confuse most mommys and daddys when taking care of us...meow... Kittens need to drink THEIR MOTHER'S milk while they are nursing. It is full of the fat and protein that they need to grow rapidly and survive. yummy in my tummy...meow...

But us cats and kittens can drink COW's milk OCCASIONALLY but we do not need to drink it. Is personally likes it lots, and mommy gives it to me a little. Never too much though cause then I am tripsing to my litters box... meow...We can however, easily live our whole life without ever having cow's milk. Oh but Iwould really miss it....

Most feral or wild cats never have cow's milk. poor guys...meow...Like humans, we and our little kitten friends are lactose intolerant. We cannot digest cow's milk properly and that is why I trips to my litters box because I get diarrhea or gastric upset when I drink it, and so will you. Meow.... Kittens that become lactose intolerant usually only become intolerant after they are about 3 months of age, those lucky little guys...meow....THEIR mom's milk shouldn't cause any gastric upset. yummy...slurp!

If you or your kitten friends gets diarrhea as a result of drinking cow's milk, tell your mommy and daddys to stop giving you milk and it should pass. Some of our owners who know we have lactose intolerant problems and we's are 'milkaholics' can occasionally give us lactose free milk. Meow....Mommys and daddys you can find lactose free milk in pet stores. If we digests milk without a problem then you can give us the occasional milk treat. meow meow...

Remember - Cow's milk should never be the primary or regular food source for any us whether we be grown up or a kitten since it is missing many essential ingredients to keep us healthy. MEOW.....

Do Cats Like the Rain? Meow...I sure don't....I would rather be curled up on my couch...It's untrue that all cats don't like water. hmmm I still don't...meow...

If you don't close the bathroom door your cat might get in and take a shower or stretch out in the bathtub! If your cat likes water try putting an inch of water in the bath tub during the hot summer, they'll get in it and prance up and down although not getting totally wet like a dog would. Some don't mind the rain and often will go fishing.
Cats can swim! I con't but I guess other feline friends can??? Meow. We maintain our own fur by grooming a great deal so it's not necessary to bath us.

Miz Allie Cat, as you all probably know, lives in sunny California, however, its not too sunny right now!!! Matter of fact its buuuurrrr meow-cold and even with my soft and thinck fur it is still a bit nippy for me...meow....

Although it seems obvious to most pet owners, we are now experiencing a period of bitter bitter cold in most of the U.S. Thousands of us cats and many dogs literally freeze to death each year. Meow.....Many more suffer from hypothermia, and end up in veterinary offices due to excessive exposure to the cold. oh, I hate's the big bad vettee place...meow....

Hypothermia, or a body temperature that is below normal, is a condition that occurs when the cats are not able to keep their body temperature from falling below normal. It happens when they spend too much time in cold temperatures, or when cats with poor health or circulation are exposed to cold. In mild cases, your cat will shivers and show signs of depression, lethargy, and weakness. As the condition progresses, her muscles will stiffen, her heart and breathing rates will slow down, and she will stop responding to stimuli. If you notice these symptoms, you need to get your cat warm and take her to your veterinarian.
Another cold-related problem is frostbite. Sometimes your cat may accidentally be left outside or become lost during a heavy snowstorm. Frostbite may result. If this happens, remember - frozen tissues should never be rubbed. This causes additional tissue damage. Prompt veterinary treatment is needed. If this is not possible, warm the affected area rapidly by immersing in warm, never hot, water or by using warm, moist towels that are changed frequently. As soon as the affected tissues become flushed, discontinue warming. Gently dry the affected tissues and lightly cover with a clean, dry, non-adhering bandage. If frostbite is in the later stages, gangrene may set in and cause all kinds of infections. So, if you suspect your cat has frostbite, take her to the veterinarian.

How to deal with cold weather
As winter weather really sets in, don't forget to help keep your cats warm and safe. Help your cats remain healthy during the colder months by following some of these simple guidelines.

the winter season can be harsh on us cats, so you should fortify our coats. Add Supplements to our diet with essential fatty acids that will cause the coat to grow in a bit thicker for the cold months. Meow..and they tastes good too!! Meow...

Vegetable oils such as canola oil, safflower oil, soybean oil, butter and fish oils are high in these fatty acids. They can be added to the food. I sure have a preference for the fishy oils! Meow

Increase our supply of food, particularly protein, to keep our fur thick and healthy through the winter months. So long as we do not have a weight problem, give us extra food and treats during the winter months to help us keep warm. Meow...puuurrrr

Give us our daily vitaminss E and B-complex that will strengthen the tissues and make us more resistant to cold. But you should be careful, because providing additional vitamins can actually cause imbalances in our diet and medical problems. So check with the doc..meow

Be particularly gentle with us elderly and arthritic cats during the winter. The cold can leave our joints extremely stiff and tender, and they may become more awkward than usual.

Be sures to stay directly below us when we are climbing stairs or jumping onto furniture. Consider modifying their environment to make it easier for us to get around. Make sure we have a thick, soft bed in a warm room like the living room, puuurrr, for the chilly nights.Meow my mommy sure does for me right on my couch!! puuurrr

Make sure we has a warm place to sleep far away from all outside drafts and preferably off the floor - such as a basket or a cardboard box with a warm blanket in it. If wenormally sleeps on the floor, provide us with warm and comfortable mat or bed. ppuuurrrr

Keep fireplaces screened. We will luxuriate in its warmth. However, if we lie too close to the fire, they we are in danger of hot cinders or sparks. ough!! meow Fireplace heat also contributes to our dry skin. Fumes from the fireplace may cause respiratory problems in some of us too. Especially us older gals...meow

If you have to take us to the big old bad vet, put a hot water bottle in the carrier. You can also put the our bed in the dryer for a few minutes before putting us into the carrier. A cover, or towel on the carrier is good for blocking draughts. meow

Keep our coat well groomed. Matted fur won't properly protect us from the cold. puuurrr

Outside cats

We are social animals that crave human companionship, so we deserve to live indoors with you and your family. Meow....But if you permit us to go outdoors or live outdoors completely, here are some tips that will keep us in good condition.

Keep us outside as the weather starts getting colder so we can adapt. We needs to physically adjust to the temperature change, grow a thicker coat and build up a resistance to the weather. meow..not me..

We that spend a lot of time outdoors need more food in the winter because keeping warm depletes our energy. So our mommys and daddys may also have to change the eating habits of their pets during the winter. meow

Check our food and water often to make certain they are fresh and unfrozen. Don't use metal bowls outside during the winter. Our tongue may accidentally stick to the bowl. Sometimes our mommys or daddys don't realize that a water bowl has frozen and we cats can't get anything to drink. meow... When we cats don't have access to clean, unfrozen water we are more likely to drink out of puddles or gutters, which can be polluted with oil, antifreeze, household cleaners, and other chemicals. ohhh nooo meow...

Especially important for every outdoor cat mommy and daddy to know is to have a place for adequate shelter during cold weather. Ensure we have an insulated house. The house should be large enough for us to turn around, yet small enough to conserve our body heat. The floor should be raised a few inches off the ground and covered with cedar shavings or straw. yum yum that's warm...meow....The house should be turned to face away from the wind, and the doorway should be covered with waterproof burlap or heavy plastic.
Never use newspaper, towels, or blankets inside a our shelter. They will retain the cold and become stiff and hard. Instead, use straw. Meow

During the winter, we sometimes sleep under the hood of your cars or in the garage where it is warm and comfortable. You should be aware that the antifreeze is of particular concern, as it can be deadly for us cats that lick it from garage floors. If we sleeps under the hood of your car, when you start the motor we could get caught in or flung about by the fan belt, causing serious injury or even death. MEOW!!!!!

To prevent this, mommys and daddys and big human family....be sure to bang loudly on the hood and sides of your car before turning on the ignition to give the us a chance to escape. MEOW....Meow.... Meow

The rule of thumb is this: If it's too cold for you, it's too cold for us cats.meow....
Tell your mommy's and daddys to be sure and protect our bodys and limbs with warm fuzzy fabric, and keep us indoors at night. meow...I am indoors all the time anyways, but some of our fellow kittys likes that openess...meow...

Bottom Line is even though we's have fur coats if its too cold for you its too cold us. Meow pppuuurrrr inside I will stay!!!!!

Last night the skys was so pretty that I took a little stroll around the yard, that was when this kitty who is always sniffing around my yard decided to follow me back into the house through ole foxy's doggie door and play with me. The only problem was that mommy and daddy woke up to a room full of white hair...seems my new friend has too much of it and left more on the rug than she needed to... Miz Allie Comments on Sleeping Cats

Now today TGIF I am taking my usual snooze, can you see my eyes??? Maybe if you squint a little....Mommy likes to sneek up on me but I can see her all the time...meow...Have you noticed that we cats spend a lot of quality time snoozing. In fact, we sleep anywhere from 13 to 16 hours per day. In other words, we spend approximately 2/3 of his entire life in dreamland. Ahhh Meow....

We sleep more than almost any other mammal. Realistically, we sleep about twice as much as our mommys and daddys do. Meow.... How much each of us cats sleep depends on our age, hunger, the temperature and the weather. Like you humans, we go through both Rapid Eye Movement (REM) and non-REM sleep.

Although no human can actually ask us that, but humans assume that we dream during REM sleep. Some humans may notice our whiskers twitch or our eyes moving behind our eyelids. The deep non-REM sleep is when our body grows and repairs itself. Meow.....yawn..I am getting tired now...meow...puuurrrr

If we seem lethargic or depressed we may be ill.... mommys and daddys should always call our Vet doctor if we change our habits in sleeping....oh no... We may be sleeping less than usual may have a thyroid problem. Although dogs are more often hypothyroid (meaning they don't have enough thyroid hormone), I knew we were better than that ole Foxy... ....meow....here's some proof...meow....us cats are more likely to be hyperthyroid (meaning they have too much thyroid hormone). Because the we are producing extra thyroid hormone our metabolism goes up, and we sleeps less. Ah try and catch us if you can....meow....

Most of us house cats, do a lot of our sleeping at night. We tend to wake up our mommys and daddys in the middle of the night and they say we are a "nocturnal" kitty....although that's not exactly true...... We are "crepuscular," which means we are most active at dawn and dusk. We like to do our hunting at these times because our prey is usually most active then....yummy...meow...
During the heat of the day, we like to sleep. Although we have good night vision, we can't see in complete darkness, so we tend to sleep then as well. Oh yes I curl up on mommy's pillow every night and push that ole Foxy out of the way....Meow...

If you notice that we are waking you humans up early every morning, we may simply be reacting to our crepuscular nature.Meow....What is that???? Meow....
When the sun comes up, we wakes up. Of course, you also can give us a big kitty reward, meow....for getting you up so early then you don't need that old loud alarm clock.....meow..... If you feed us, yum yum, in the morning, you might want to wait awhile and not jump to feeding us right away, or we might tend to think we need to wake you up so we can eats!! meow.....
The big humans say to not respond to our demansds??? But I think every mommy and daddy needs to listen to our demands closely ...don't you?? meow....and remember that we all need 16 hours a day of beauty-cat-rest...and if we get our days and nights mixed up, then mommy or daddy needs to keep waking us during the day and play with us...meow...meow...

But, sometimes when we are in the wild or feral state, us cats need to spend a good proportion of our time hunting in order to catch enough food. Because we cat hunts alone, it we only have ourselves to rely on to find enough food to survive, so we have to keep going until we are successful. Hunting tends to take place when the natural prey species of the cat (small rodents) are active, which is mostly late in the evening and early in the morning. Because hunting is hard work for us cats, we tend to rest and sleep for much of the rest of the day to conserve energy. It often seems that our cats sleep a lot because they sleep during the day when humans are up! Meow

There are also differences in sleeping habits between individual cats: some of us cats are very inactive and will rest for a large proportion of the day and night. This particularly occurs when our activity patterns are inhibited in some way: for example us indoor cats that do not have an adequately enriched environment may become very inactive. And like me take siestas many times in the daytime. Meow....

Yippy!!!!! The hammock has arrived from Daisymae Maus!!! Miz Allie had won the Halloween Costume Contest on Daisymae's blog.....Oh Daisymae...thank youuuu soooo much..meow...my beautiful hammock arrived yesterday and I now have a new bed!! meow...At first I had to investigate when mommy brought it home...and check out what this strange long brown box was??? Then mommy helped me unwrap it and put it together, of course I had to check it out before she finished and sniff all the familiar smells, Charms of course....meow....but then mum put it all up and I got right into it and found my comfortable spot and took a snooze. Mom left it right by the couch where she sits so that I can still be close by her..meow....thank you...puuurrrrr...meow....love it Daisymae.....ppuuurrrr....meow.....

1st I had to see who it was for?? 2nd I saw it was for me!! meowwww

Then mom had to unwrap it with my help! Next of course the sniffing it out...meow...

and lastly getting comfortable accepting it as my new TV watching bed!!!!

Fuuurrr pudding:
1/2 cup milk

1 tsp salt

1/4 tsp meat drippings

1 t brown sugar

1 egg beaten

1/2 cup brown rice

Miz Allie Says Things to Consider in Case of Losing a Loved One

Instinct tells a cat to hide where a predator can't find them. When a cat is ill, it may think it is being stalked - so it hides. Miz Allie says she likes to hide all the time, but after losing Mitsy she thought maybe some educating in the "Cat heaven" process might be a thought to meeander...Meow...So below are some of my findings on the "touchy" subject...Meow....

So what if you come home and find your beloved cat has died. First.. Miz Allie wants to send her condolences, and knows your pain. But what do you do now? Here's what you might do next.Meow....

You can call someone close to you. Even if the the other person has not been through this type of grief they can still be of comfort to you. There are hands to be held and tissues carried. Meow...

You need to call a professional. If it's past business hours you can call any medical hospital and they will have an emergency number for you to call.

Getting there is often difficult but there are ways, by car, a friend could be driving or a family member while you are in your state of grief.

Put your kitty in a carrier and try not to touch them much afterwards. Meow....

Cover the carrier with a towel

Take your time with the vet. This is the last time you'll see your cat. Ask any dumb question you want; vets, by law, cannot actually call your questions "dumb." Meow... Meow...

Decide if you want the remains in an urn or a cardboard container. Or if a group cremation would be OK. The price difference between a private and group cremation at the Humane Society can be sugnificant so check with more than one by calling in advance. This may seem morbid, but mommys and daddys do the same for themselves. Meow...

If you do a group cremation, you will still receive a certificate that says the pet's name and that everyone was done to code. But you will receive no remains.

Grieving is a normal process and don't feel that there is a time limit or right or wrong way to go about it. Many mommys and daddys wait a long time to get another kitty, but we know no matter how many cats you own , no one cat will ever replace us. Meow...

Just a few of Miz Allie's findings on preparation...

Many methods of burials are governed by individual state or local laws, so part of planning in advance includes investigating laws in your location. My county of residence prohibits the burial of cats in back yards, for instance. Since scattering of human cremains is so tightly regulated, it is doubtful that scattering of cat cremains would be legal in most areas.

Cremation can be arranged through your veterinarian. There are two methods:
Communal Cremation: The remains of a cat are cremated along with other deceased pets, and disposed of according to law. Usually, there is no charge for this service. Meow...Meow....
Individual Cremation - The remains of your beloved cat is cremated, and the cremains are returned to the you for final burial. The charge varies, as do the costs of permanent memorial urns for pet cremains. Some people even go so far as to save the cremains of their loved pets to be buried with them when they die. Meow Meow.....
Whole Body Burial
At Home: This method is used regularly by grieving human survivors, who want to feel the "closure" of having a private service at home, and having the remains of the lost cat close by. Ok, Mommys home, and although I had a few little presents that I left for mommy to show her that I really missed her and didn't like her going away. She really didn't get too mad at me... Don't leave them outside; Never leave your pet outside on Halloween. Oh I am never outside long anyways...Meow...but never on that scary night...Meow....Believe it or not, there are cruel people out there that actually kidnap roaming pets and torture them as part of their sickening rituals or use them as part of a dangerous Halloween pranks. Oh my...Meowwwwww......Black cats are especially susceptible to abduction from Halloween troublemakers. So to be safe, keep all animals indoors during Halloween as well as the day before and after. Meow Meow...

Keep them comfortable and well-provided for;House your cat or dog in a secure room separated from the living room if you'll be giving out candy or hosting a Halloween party. Meow....Even the friendliest cats and dogs can become stressed with so many people coming in and out. And it's possible that your furry friend may dart out the door while you're handing out candy. Meow...I of course would never leave my mommy alone during those scary times....Worst case scenario is that your dog or cat may snap at strange children or even injure them. So play it safe and keep your pet in a secure area. To keep them comfortable, provide them with food, water, some favorite toys and treats, something to chew on, somewhere to relieve themselves and a soft place to lay. This will help soothe and comfort animals who aren't used to being confined to one area.

Away from fire; Meowwwww......keep lit jack-o-lanterns and burning candles far out of the reach of your pets, as your dog or cat could easily tip these objects over, resulting in a damaging and even deadly house-fire. Also, even if they don't tip it over, many curious cats, of course we will venture too close to a candle flame get badly burned, so watch out for us kittys...Meow.....

No candy for pets; Halloween candy is extremely dangerous for pets. Chocolate is very toxic and could kill your pet if he or she consumed enough. Oh Meowwwww..... Also, the aluminum wrappers can also be harmful if your pet swallows them. At the very least, your pet would get very ill if he or she consumed candy.

Costumes for Pets? No No Miz Allie likes to dress up but only if she is in the mood...Meow....so as cute as a dog or cat in a Halloween costume is, it may not be the best idea for some of us. If your pet is not used to being dressed up, they may become distressed. Meow ... Also, some costumes could have dangerous strings that could strangle your pet, or small adornments that could be swallowed and choked on. Oh Meowwwwww.... If you must dress your pet up for Halloween, use a costume designed specifically for the kind of animal you have. Meow...

If you follow these basic safety tips, you and your family can enjoy a fun Halloween while your pet stays out of harm's way. Meow...Meow....

Meow...I think that some mommy out there has waaaaaaaaaaaaay over fed this feline friend. I mean that this kitty cat is just plain old FAT! Now if you compare it to me you can see that I may be a little on the thinner side, but my mommy is always good to me and feeds me just right. Meow...She reads up on these important things...like..giving me a nibble here, a table scrap there won’t hurt me too much as long as it is done in moderation and she can tell that my tummy is not too big, but could it be too much for some cats?

Well that may be all it takes to help expand your cat’s girth.The truth is, one little snack may not hurt, but you’d be amazed at how little it takes to add up to a fat cat. According to Margie Scherk, DVM, ABVP (Feline), just ten extra pieces of an average formula of cat food per day above your cat's energy needs can result in a weight gain of one pound of fat in one year! WOW! Meow...That is a lot! Now that may not be a big deal for a human, but that’s ten percent of a ten-pound cat’s weight.That can make a big difference there. Meow.....

25% of cats are now approaching the fat scale. Yet..cats living in the wild aren’t usually fat? They work hard for their food: running, jumping, and climbing trees to kill as many as ten mice a day. So nature provides many small meals throughout the day rather than one or two huge meals. I ususally get fed small portions 2x a day and I am always looking for more but mommy never gives me much more...meow...now I know its because she loves me...meow...

Eating too much of the wrong food (foods that contain too many carbs and dry food), as well as a lack of exercise, contributes to your cat’s ever-expanding waistline and puts it at risk for diabetes, hepatic lipidosis, arthritis, feline lower urinary tract infections (LUTI) and even skin disorders, according to Dr. Scherk. Since your cat doesn’t have to fit into a prom dress by a certain date, well some of us might, there’s no reason to rush the reduction. In fact, starving your pet or forcing rapid weight loss can result in a potentially fatal condition called hepatic lipidosis or fatty liver disease. Oh no...never starrve..meow...

It’s important to check with your veterinarian for dietary recommendations.Food is only one aspect of weight loss. Remember, the wild cat expends a great deal of energy hunting. Another variation is to divide your cat’s daily ration into six or seven mouse-sized portions and place it in tiny sushi soy sauce bowls all over the house - in different rooms, on top of things, or under furniture. Make your cat work for it. Like its wild counterpart, your pet gets to hunt.Occasional treats have their place. They’re very effective for training your kitty to do tricks or rewarding good behavior. Use treats as a reward when you need to do something uncomfortable like medicate your cat or trim its toenails. But always remember that too much of a good thing is not necessarily good.

Medicine and Nutrition suggests selecting lower calorie all-meat treats like, turkey baby food, bonito flakes, freeze dried chicken or fish. Yum Yummy I feel it in my tummy already...Meow....They don’t contain empty carbs, grains and empty calories. His rule of thumb is everything in moderation. Don’t treat more than five percent of the cat’s diet. Avoid treats that contain any form of onion, garlic, chocolate, grapes, raisins, grains and sugars. Yuck....

One of my favorite poses is sitting like my Mommy does, well maybe more like my Daddy. Meow...Now did you know that Ancient mariners believed that a cat's behavior could foretell a change in the weather. I always know when its going to rain. I just can feel it in my paws and I for sure don't go out back. Meow.....But on with the sailors who considered black cats unlucky since they were thought to bring bad weather. Good thing I'm not all black. Meow...Tortoiseshell cats were often held by seafarers to be lucky [ ohh my mom was a tortoiseshell cat, I do so miss her] and Japanese sailors in particular would carry a tri-colored cat aboard. They believed that such a cat could give early enough warning of an approaching storm for the vessel to return to port to avoid it, and would also send the cat up the mast to "put the storm devils to flight".
I think Mark Twain said it all when he said,

How to Treat a Cat That is Vomiting Hairballs

Meow...I get lots of hairballs and I usually cough them up, mainly I go and get the tall grass by the pond and chew on it and then it gets that nasty like ball up..meow...but some of us cats can be a bit fastidious, and this can often cause a hairball problem. Mainly we cats groom ourselves by licking our fur. Our tongue's feels a lot like sandpaper to our mummys and others mainly because of the many small barbs. Meow, but those barbs are helpful to us cats as they catch the hair as we lick our bodies and clean ourselves daily. Of course then the hair gets swa;;owed and thus we have our hairballs beginning. Meow the problem happens when all that hair in our tummies starts to collect and it doesn't get digested Meow...and then we start to throw up the hairballs to get rid of it.

Now.... if you want to help us out mummies meow....you can see if we are having any problems with hairballs, just look for some simple signs like are we:

vomiting long cigar-shaped material full of hair,

vomiting food immediately after we eat and then attempt to eat again,

passing hair in our stools

not eating or losing some weight

If you see your little loved one having problems vomiting hairballs, you can try theses ideas:

1: Remove all our food and water immediately.
2: If you see any blood in our vomit or it smells wose than usual, contact our veterinarian immediately. If not, go to # 3.
3: Treat us by placing one or two teaspoons of white petroleum jelly our mouth and paws so we can lick it off. Do not give us any mineral oil.
4: Repeat the petroleum jelly treatment once a day while we are having difficulty. Meow....if the problem lasts more than two or three days, contact our veterinarian immediately.

Miz Allie did some digging through a lot of books to bring you some logical cat-explanations to some of their behavioral habits. Meow

Why does your cat wash your hair or face? A cat-ogical thing to do because the first thing a kitten experiences, even before it can see, is its mommy licking and washing it. Grooming is a cat-demonstration of their love and care of their mommy and daddy. So, if your cat occasionally washes your hair or licks your face, she/he is showing you her/his cat-ceptance of caring for you as a fellow feline.

Why does a cat "knead" or "make biscuits"? When a kitten is nursing, it typically kneads its paws against its mommy, either as a sign of cat-contentment or to encourage the milk flow. When the cat matures, it kneads to show its cat-contentment and pleasure.

Why does your cat push its head against you? This is called "head butts". This is a cat's way of showing affection. Some cats will turn their head, and push it against a human (or another cat).

Why does a cat do a stiff-legged hop/touch against a human? That is the cat's body language of saying, "hey, hi there, how ya doin'?"

Why does your cat rub up against you? Cats have scent glands along the tail, on each side of their head, on their lips, base of their tail, chin, near their sex organs, and between their front paws. They use these glands to scent mark their territory. When the cat rubs you, she/he is marking you with his scent, claiming you as "hers/his." Too, he is picking up your scent. Cats rub up against furniture or doorways for the same reason - to mark the item as "hers/his". (Urine spraying is also a territorial marking, by the way.) MEOWWW

Why does a cat walk sloooowly, looking straight forward when passing another cat? Well...All us cats are somewhat territorial to an extent - the range of a particular inside cat may extend from a small space in a room to the entire house, depending on their hierarchical ranking in the family. When a "superior" cat confronts on "inferior" in the hierarchy, it will stare at and/or move in for a face-to-face confrontation. When a cat wants to show that it doesn't want to get into an argument, it will make a wide, slow path around the other cat, usually avoiding even looking at it.

A CITY CALLED "CAT" - THE KUCHING CAT MUSEUM
No cat-lover's visit to Malaysia would be complete without a visit to Kuching in East Malaysia. Kuching is located on the River Sarawak in Borneo and is capital of Malaysia's Sarawak state. Quite how it was named Kuching, or "Cat", isn't clear, but according to legend the Englishman Sir James Brooke was given the right to rule Sarawak by the grateful Sultan of Brunei in 1841 as a reward for quelling a local rebellion. Being unsure of the town's Malay name, he simply pointed to the riverside and his local guide, thinking he was pointing to a scavenging feral cat (rather than to the town) said "Kuching".
Kuching contains a cat museum, originally housed as an exhibition in Sarawak Museum. All sorts of cats are covered from the tiger through to the Singapura (Singapore is, after all, just off the tip of the Malay peninsula!). The displays range from cats made of wood, stone, porcelain, pewter or fabric through to posters, greetings cards and stamps. Man’s relationship with cats is traced through history - from Egyptian cat-worship (though most people forget that cat-worship was a local cult, not an Egypt-wide practise) though Middle Ages persecution to the modern exhibits.
The art and literature exhibits include reproductions of Old Masters which depicted cats right through to Louis Wain (1860-1939) and modern artists such as Zoe Stokes. Other areas are devoted to stories and illustrations of famous cat lovers and their cats: Dickens, Churchill and Theodore Roosevelt. Hi there all you catsters....this is how I felt whem my mommy and daddy left me alone....my mommy and daddy went on vacation for 11 days and left me all alone...now mind you brother John did come by and feed my, but it sure was lonely all that time. She came home last night and just to show her how bad it was I am meowing every two minutes at her. Then I stuck my tail up and looked the other way when she tried to talk to me. I mean 11 days!!! And this is how I felt about that Foxy girl goinng and what I thought about doing to her little fur bottom!!! Wow...how come that Foxy dog got to go???? I can ride in cars too!!! Meow!!! Well I am glad their home and mommy gave me extra ymmys as a treat last night and I even got to sleep in bed with her and I swapped that silly Foxt right off the bed...The doggy nerve of her thinking she could sleep up next to mommy!!! I sure showed her a purr and two.....But purr honestly catsters, all I really did was snoooze the time while they were on their human vacation...

Litter Box Reassessment

My litter box itself may be the turn-off for not doing my "duty" there. A doctor friend of mine Dr. Christianne Schelling, a veterinarian in Three Rivers, Calif., who has a not-for-profit educational web site Litter-Box.org, recommends one litter box per cat in the household, plus an extra box. I can agree with this purrrseption of my habits. My mommy keeps two for me and I like it just fine. "Some cat friends of mine prefer to urinate in one and defecate in another," Dr. Schelling agrees with me. She says "You have to figure out what is right for each individual cat."

Schelling agrees with Miz Allie and also recommends these steps:

Moms you need to figure out if the box is big enough for us Cats as we like to get in and be able to turn around. If a commercial box isn't large enough, consider turning one of your under-the-bed sweater bin into a litter box.
Make sure there's enough litter as us Cats like to dig. Don't skimp on litter we know that you never do on the toilet paper!.
Reconsider that plastic liner, I really hate that one!!! While liners make the cleanup easier for you, we cannot stand that crinkling noise or the slippery feel on our paws.

And by all means learn about litter. I mean the type of litter is puurrrensential to what we want in our toilets! I purrfer sand in mine and give a paws-down on pelletized or clay litter. Schelling says most of us cats puuurrrrfer sand or clumping litter, and he is puurrexactly right about that one fact.

Mommies everywhere listen up to this one.....Clean my box regularly!!! This is very important and all us Cats by nature can be a bit finicky. If there's even one little mess in my box, I may not go back. I just leave my little presents in the middle of the rug for my mom to discover later or sooner depending on what I ate!! You might want to keep a garbage pail right next to the litter box to make frequent cleanups easy.

The jury is still out on automatic self-cleaning boxes I think that most of us really don't care for it. I know I cannot stand to hear the noise and to hang around to watch it scoop that is a big PURRR NOOO!! But some other friends of mine, the whirring noise of the motor "scares the living catlights out of them," and Dr. Schelling says he knows this little fact.

Kitty Litter "Boot Camp????

Here Dr. Miller explains what some friends of mine need to help in their "toilet" habits. Now Miz Allie does not need this....but some cats may need to be retrained to use the litter box. Dr. Miller suggests having these cats undergo "litter box boot camp" by confining them to one room with their litter box for a few days. The last thing any mommie or daddy should do to one of us cats with a litter-box problem is to punish us. If you catch us in the act, pick us up and put us in the box. and if by chance we have an "accident" and miss the box, well then its really too late to scold us so ignore it till the next time. After all were only Cats!!!

Now there is another situation that all mommies and daddies may not be considering???? Puuurrrr- stress....or could it be a medical condition????

If its a medical conditions take us to the veterinarian to first to rule out a medical condition. Several medical conditions cause pain during elimination or an increased need to urinate or defecate. These conditions include colitis, inflammatory bowel disease, diabetes mellitus, hyperthyroidism, kidney or liver disease, and feline lower urinary tract disease (FLUTD). Oh I hope none of my friends have any of these catditions

then it could be we are just puuuurrr-stressed as we are extremely sensitive to stressors such as you moving or changing our routine. Moms you can reduce these and other stressors whenever possible by petting us and making sure we are aware of where we will be going and maybe keeping us in the bathroom for a few days so we can get used to the new house smells and understand we are not being left behind or taken to this far away scary place.

Our litter box locations needs to be easily purr-accessible - ground level is ideal. Also, make sure our litter box is placed in a private, quiet, pleasant area. A dark, damp basement is not the place for anyone's toilet.

Too few litter boxes can make us angry with our moms. I mean how would you like to have one bathroom for 25 humans? Not too purrr-fun is it? Most of us don't appreciate having to share our litter box, regardless of whether it's fresh or filthy. I purrr-commend at least one litter box per cat - more if your cat is fussy. I sure am and love having the two mommy gives me!!!

Be sure to keep our boxes puuurrr-fectly clean!!! We fastidious feline kittys will go out of our way to avoid a full box - even if it means "kitty poos" where we know we shouldn't. Change our litter puuurrrr-requently. If you're using a plastic pan, replace it puuuurrrrr-eriodically; it eventually will absorb our urine odors.

Calico Cats

Some people believe that us calico cats are an actual breed, or that calico refers to a color of a cat. Since all cats are colored, calico refers to the pattern of how the coloring appears on the cat's coat.

A Calico cat, like myself, is formed by a gene known as the white spotting factor. The white spotting factor effectively slows down the migration of cells across the kitten's body. One X-chromosome in every cell is switched off.

The results are patches of white, orange, and non-orange in the kitten. The more white in a calico, the larger the patches of white, orange and non-orange because the migration of cells in the embryo is slowed.

Calico cats are overwhelmingly female. Persians are always female and give birth to black-and-white or red and white bi-colored sons.

Genetically, two X chromosomes are needed to produce a calico coat, which is why the majority of calico cats are females. If the colors are black/orange upon the coat, then the cat is a calico cat. If the colors are blue/cream instead of the standard black/orange, then the cat is a muted calico.

If the majority of calico cats are female, then does this make male calicos valuable? For cat lovers, a calico cat, regardless of gender is valuable to the owner. Calico cats are quirky, independent, a tad stubborn and fun to be around.

It is clear that calico cats have captivated hearts of cat fanciers around the world. On October 1, 2001 the state of Maryland was so enamored with this delightful cat that they declared the calico cat as their official state cat.
